What does the course consist of?

Astronomy courses

Both courses consist of nine lessons, each lesson is relevant to a part of the syllabus. The lessons are sent out by post individually and it is your choice how often you receive them. Once each lesson is complete you return it to me to be assessed and marked.

After your papers have been assessed I will discuss your markings, why they have been given and where there is room for improvement. These assignments will help you when it comes to answering your exam questions in the case of GCSE astronomy.

GCSE Astronomy Exam

The exams are taken throughout May and June annually. They are one hour and forty five minutes long and it is required that you at least attempt to answer all the questions. These papers will count as 100% towards the overall mark.

If you wish to sit the exam, you must find an approved centre to register you as a full-time candidate and you must attend this centre to sit your paper. The fee’s charged by your exam centre can vary but are usually between £25-£50 which you must pay to them in January of the year you wish to sit the exam.

GCSE Observational Work

PEC and GCSE astronomy courses

In addition to the papers Two pieces of observations work are requited to be done during the course. These do not form part of the overall exam mark, but do need to be assessed by myself and an assessment form signed and send to Edexcel.

There will be at least one question on each paper testing your knowledge of actual practical observations. The idea of the two piece of work is to provide you with the knowledge and experience with which to answer these questions
